The Newest Yarns

The yarn pictured above is from Queensland Collection and is called Rustic Tweed.  It contains 63% wool, 27% alpaca, 7% acrylic and 3% viscose so it is very soft and the colors are wonderful.  It has 318 yards per hank and knits at 4.5 stitches per inch on an 8 needle.

This very colorful basket full of goodness is called Hachito by Mirasol.  It is sock weight, superwash and knits at 7.5 stitches per inch on a 2-3 needle.  It has 192 yards per skein so would take 2 for socks, but don't limit yourself to that.  It contains 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon and the colors are glorious.

Wrap Yourself In Mink

These are the first 4 colors of Mimi Mink Hand Dyed for fall.  The solid color has been out for almost a year and is a tactile experience like no other.  Just to hold and fondle it is such a pleasure.  To knit with it is divine.  It has very good yardage, about 330 yards, so one skein can go far.  It can make a large cowl, hat and scarf and other items.  The current issue of Knitter's magazine contains the "Lush and Lacy Trapeze" sweater pattern done in solid color Mink.  Several of us are working on it now as a knitalong.  If you really want to spoil someone or treat yourself, indulge in a skein or two.  It will make you happy.

Hot Items For Fall

Cowls are the big fashion item for fall and that is good news for us because they couldn't be any easier to knit or gift.  These cowls pictured were knit in an evening with size 11 needles and little effort.  They are knit in the round so no finishing to do and you can also use the same patterns for a long scarf.  Drop by to see all that we can offer if you are in the market to do some cowls.  They make great holiday gifts and are inexpensive too.

Fandango Fun

                                            NEEDLE NOOK

Here is some summer fun for you to knit.  I call these Fandango and we have three versions:  a cowlette, scarf and shawl.  This project is very quick as it is knit on a size 19 needle.  It is achieved by tying bits and pieces of yarn (leftovers, stash, new) together and letting the ends dangle and show.  It's all garter stitch.  You can adjust the size to suit your needs.  We have bins of yarn you can choose from and wind a ball right in the shop, or you can bring in some stash from home and add to it.  The charge is $4.50 per ounce for DIY and $8.50 per ounce if we help.  A free pattern is included in the price.  Why not come by and try on our models to see if you would like one?

Another announcement is that we plan to host Knit In Public Day at the Red Pepper Taqueria in our shopping center.  The event will be held on June 9th from 11AM to 3PM.  There will be door prizes and special discounts at Needle Nook those 4 hours.  Join us for this annual knit-in love fest.  The restaurant has offered at 10% discount on food and drink too.

Got your attention, huh?  This is for the knitter who has everything, chocolate truffles in the shape of a yarn ball.  A great Mother's Day gift or anytime gift for a knit buddy.  We have them in singles or a pack of four.  What will they think of next?

It was nice to see so many of you at Stitches.  This is the first time the Atlanta Area Yarn Shops have all had a booth together and it was fun.  The best part was Charles Gandy who was autographing his new book, "Knitted Sock Embellishments".  Look for a class with Charles coming soon at Needle Nook.  Check out our website for more information - www.needlenookatlanta.com.

Knit and Crochet Day in Georgia

Governor Deal has proclaimed April 14th as Knit and Crochet Day in Georgia, a very special reason for all of us to celebrate.  There will be a rally on the steps of the State Capitol on Saturday, April 14th, from 11AM to 2PM.  If you can go and show your support, that would be great.  If you can't make it downtown, you can still support this wonderful day at a knit-in at Needle Nook from 1-4PM.  Bring your own chair, sunscreen and your knitting bag.  Everyone who sits and knits will receive a coupon for a 15% discount on any purchases during the event.  Let's show Georgia we care.
